While MJF vs. Jay White for It marked the 2nd time in the previous 4 pay televisions that MJF needed to work numerous matches, going back to All In when he and Adam Cole beat Aussie Open for the ROH world tag group titles on the pre-show. Quickly into Better Than You Bay Bay’s reign as ROH tag champs, Adam Cole suffered an ankle injury that needed surgical treatment. Instead of abandon the belts, MJF continued to protect them. With Cole’s injury leaving MJF without a partner on brief notification, he dealt with The Righteous in a handicap match at WrestleDream in October and beat both Vincent and Dutch to maintain the titles. It at first looked as though MJF would just need to concentrate on protecting the AEW world title versus White at Full Gear, however when White’s Bullet Club Gold compatriots in Austin and Colten Gunn put down a difficulty for Full Gear, MJF accepted. Instead of attempting to eliminate the previous AEW world tag group champs alone, it was revealed that MJF would have a secret partner for his ROH tag title defense. Prior to Full Gear, Joe conserved MJF from an attack at the hands of Bullet Club Gold and accepted be his partner in exchange for a future AEW World Championship match, which provided MJF a battling opportunity to maintain the title reign for himself and Cole. Still, MJF had a big obstacle on his hands provided The Gunns’experience together as a group and their performance history of success in AEW over the previous number of years. MJF and Joe handled to maintain the titles over The Gunns, providing MJF some much-needed momentum entering his AEW World Championship defense versus White later on in the night.
