Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 6 Live Updates: Polling for the sixth phase of general elections is underway in 58 constituencies across six states and two Union territories, including all seven seats in Delhi. A total of 889 candidates are competing in this phase. The Commission has made 12 alternative documents, in addition to the Voter ID card (EPIC), available for identity verification at polling stations. Liquor shops in all polling areas, including Delhi, Faridabad, and Gurugram, are closed due to dry day restrictions, which will remain in effect until 6 pm today.

Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 6 LIVE: Border villages enjoy peaceful voting without fear of cross-border shelling
Just metres from the Line of Control (LoC), the polling stations set up for Lok Sabha elections at Sehar and Makri, the last Indian villages in this sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, came to life with enthusiastic voters making a beeline to exercise their franchise without the fear of cross-border shelling.
Rajouri along with Poonch south of Pir Panjal is part of Anantnag parliamentary constituency where polling is underway in the sixth phase to seal the fate of 20 candidates including PDP president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti. This is the last of the five constituencies in J&K as polling was held in four seats earlier.
Mehbooba faces a major challenge from former minister of National Conference and influential Gujjar leader Mian Altaf and Apni party’s Zafar Iqbal Khan Manhas who is backed by BJP. Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) leader Mohamad Saleem Parray and 10 independents are also trying their luck from the constituency.
Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 6 LIVE: Over 70 pc votes polled in 8 LS seats of West Bengal till 3 pm
West Bengal registered a voter turnout of 70.19 per cent till 3 pm in eight Lok Sabha constituencies that went to polls in the sixth phase on Saturday, an official said.
Polling began at 7 am in Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura and Bishnupur constituencies. It would continue till 6 pm.
Bishnupur (SC) recorded the highest polling at 73.55 per cent, followed by Jhargram (ST) (72.26 per cent), Tamluk (71.63 per cent), Kanthi (71.36 per cent), Ghatal (71.34 per cent), Medinipur (67.91 per cent), Bankura (67.41 per cent) and Purulia (66.06 per cent), he said.
Till 1 pm, the election office in West Bengal received 1,646 complaints, he added.
Sporadic incidents of violence were reported from some areas in the eight Lok Sabha constituencies of West Bengal.
BJP suffered setbacks from fifth phase of LS polls onwards, says Kapil Sibal
Senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Saturday claimed that from the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha election onwards, the BJP has faced setbacks and people have started talking not about Ram temple but about issues like inflation and unemployment.
“The information that I am receiving is that in the fifth and sixth phases, there have been a lot of changes. The pace that is in the fifth and sixth phases was not there in the earlier phases. People are not talking about the Ram temple but inflation, unemployment and other issues that have an impact on local levels and BJP will see a lot of damage in these phases,” Sibal told ANI.
Sibal said that in the 2019 general election, the BJP got a considerable portion of the votes of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes communities but this time this was not the case.

Despite soaring humidity sweeping the state, by 3 pm 48.44% of the 94.48 lakh voters in 6 Lok Sabha and 42 assembly constituencies of Odisha came out to vote to decide the electoral fate of union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, former corporate bigwig Santrupt Mishra, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra and BJD’s no 3 and its organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Das on Saturday.
The six Lok Sabha constituencies are Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Puri, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. In the 2019 election, 71.82 % of the voters in these six constituencies had voted.
Two persons including a voter and a polling agent of BJP died during polling. Sukadeb Patnaik. He was engaged as the polling agent of the BJP at Booth No.136 at Bahalunda village under Hindol Assembly constituency of Dhenkanal Lok Sabha constituency fell ill when the voting was underway. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him dead. Similarly, Kumudini Dalei of Patharpunji village under Baghuapalli panchayat in Bhapur block of Nayagarh district succumbed to heatstroke while she was waiting in a queue to vote. Dalei started sweating and then collapsed. She was immediately rushed to Khandapada hospital but doctors declared her dead.

Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 6 Live: Urban voters get free ride on polling day in Ranchi
In a bid to increase polling percentage in urban booths of Ranchi, the district administration tied up with a bike-taxi aggregator, to provide free pick-and-drop facilities to urban voters, an official said on Saturday.
The service will be provided in Ranchi’s 181 polling booths across the city.
As many as 2,377 polling stations have been set up for the election on Ranchi Lok Sabha seat. Of which, 949 were urban booths and 1,428 were rural polling booths.
“I appreciate the initiative of the Ranchi administration for providing free pick-and-drop facility during the election. I just applied the ‘vote now’ code on the Rapido application and received the service from home free of cost,” said Sumit Kumar, a voter.
Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 6 Live: 54.34 pc voter turnout in 4 Jharkhand LS seats till 3 pm
A voter turnout of 54.34 per cent was recorded till 3 pm in Jharkhand’s four Lok Sabha constituencies that went to polls in the sixth phase of elections on Saturday, officials said.
Voting began at 7 am in Giridih, Dhanbad, Ranchi and Jamshedpur seats, and will continue till 5 pm.
Giridih registered the highest polling at 57.11 per cent, followed by Jamshedpur (56.14 per cent), Ranchi (54.25 per cent) and Dhanbad (50.69 per cent).
“Today, I exercised my right to vote at Shri Krishna Institute of Public Administration, Ranchi. I urge all voters to exercise their right to vote. Ensure your participation in this great festival of democracy,” Governor C P Radhakrishnan said in a post on X.

The district administration could not be reached for a comment on the allegations of the two parties.
SP leader Arvind Kumar Singh wrote to the Chief Electoral Officer alleging the Ambedkar Nagar administration is influencing the elections by keeping the SP candidate under house arrest.
The EC should take cognisance so that fair voting is ensured, he said.

A voter turnout of 34.37 per cent was recorded till 1 pm in Delhi, where polling is underway for its seven Lok Sabha constituencies on Saturday.
The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said that at 37.31 per cent, the highest turnout was recorded in the North East Delhi constituency while Chandni Chowk had the lowest voting percentage at 32.18.
Poll officials said there were no reports of technical snags or delays in the commencement of voting at any polling station.
However, CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat, who had gone to exercise her franchise at St Columba’s School in the New Delhi constituency, alleged she had to wait for almost an hour to cast her vote as the battery of the EVM control unit at her polling booth “drained out”.

West Bengal registered a voter turnout of 54.80 per cent till 1 pm in the eight Lok Sabha constituencies that went to polls in the sixth phase on Saturday, an official said.
Polling began at 7 am in Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura and Bishnupur constituencies. It would continue till 6 pm.
Bishnupur (SC) recorded the highest polling at 58.64 per cent, followed by Tamluk (57.64 per cent), Ghatal (57.31 per cent), Jhargram (ST) (56.95 per cent), Bankura (54.21 per cent), Kanthi (51.66 per cent), Medinipur (51.57 per cent) and Purulia (50.34 per cent), he said.
“Voting has been peaceful so far. There are no reports of any untoward incident from anywhere,” the poll official told PTI.

A voter turnout of 36.48 per cent was recorded in eight Lok Sabha constituencies in Bihar till 1 pm on Saturday, officials said.
Voting began at 7 am in Valmiki Nagar, Pashchim Champaran, Purvi Champaran, Sheohar, Siwan, Gopalganj, Maharajganj and Vaishali constituencies and will continue till 6 pm, a senior official at the CEO office said.
Around that 1.49 crore voters are eligible to exercise their franchise.
A voter turnout of 40.48 per cent was recorded in Vaishali, 38.89 per cent in Sheohar, 37.75 per cent in Paschim Champaran, 37.57 per cent in Purvi Champaran, 36.64 per cent in Valmiki Nagar, 34.75 per cent in Maharajganj, 34.65 per cent in Gopalganj and 31.59 per cent in Siwan till 1 pm.
