A smartphone, pen drives and several other electronic devices were seized from the cell of National Security Act (NSA) detenues in Assam’s Dibrugarh Central Jail on Saturday.
Pro-Khalistani outfit Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh and his associates have been lodged in the same cell since March last year, following their arrests under the NSA from various parts of Punjab during a crackdown on the outfit.
Assam DGP G P Singh said additional CCTV cameras were installed in the public area of the NSA cell where Amritpal and his associates are housed following leads that unauthorised activities were being carried out there.
Based on inputs, the jail staff searched the premises Saturday morning and recovered a smartphone with a SIM card, a keypad phone, a TV remote with a keypad, a spy-cam pen, pen drives, bluetooth headphones, speakers and a smart watch, said the officer. He, however, did not specify that the gadgets were recovered from the Waris Punjab De members lodged in the cell. “The source of these unauthorised articles and the mode of induction are being ascertained,” he said.
