Daniel Cormier believes had it not been for injuries, Cain Velasquez would be thought about the very best fighter.
Velasquez, a previous UFC heavyweight champ, retired from MMA in late 2019. He was afflicted with injuries from his shoulder, to his knee, and his back, which thwarted a few of his prime years.
A primary training partner of Velasquez’s at American Kickboxing Academy, Cormier is positive his colleague might have beaten anybody had health maintained.
“I inform you, no one desired those Cain Velasquez issues,” Cormier informed Mixed martial arts Fighting“If that guy was healthy and all set to go, I still think he was the very best fighter. Ask me, ask Khabib (Nurmagomedov), ask the guys that saw him in the health club when he was healthy and he was great. No one resembled Cain.”
Velasquez is a previous two-time UFC heavyweight champ. He finished Brock Lesnar to declare his very first title in 2010 and avenged his title loss to Junior Dos Santos to catch the heavyweight belt a 2nd time in 2012.
In his 2nd reign, Velasquez protected his belt versus Antonio Silvaand liquidated his trilogy with Dos Santos by beating him a 2nd straight time. After the Dos Santos battle, Velasquez just contended 4 times over nearly five-and-a-half years due to injuries.
“Think about his honors, and he needed to miss out on 5, 6 years in the middle of his prime due to injury,” Cormier continued. “He was the very best. I’m informing you today, he is among those guys that everybody calls the very best, this man was the very best. He was even much better than me, for sure.”
For Cormier, Velasquez vs. Jon Jones is the battle that escaped.
“That’s one we missed out on,” Cormier stated, of Velasquez vs. Jones. “That would have been a great one.”
