WARREN, Mich. – The Detroit Arsenal of Democracy has the largest collection of historical military vehicles in the Midwest, but in just a few weeks, its vehicles won’t have a home.
The city of Warren has allowed the Detroit Arsenal of Democracy in a city garage for years, but they’re now being asked to move out. The group needs a solution and fast.
John Lind is the poster child of a kid in a candy store, but it’s just his candy are historical vehicles owned by the group he created. The Detroit Arsenal of Democracy is an education nonprofit that you may have seen in parades across Metro Detroit.
Warren officials said they need the space and are asking Lind to move everything out.
“We need about 5K inside and enough parking spaces for eight vehicles outside,” Lind said. “These vehicles here are historical vehicles – they don’t weather very well outside.”
Finding a new home for a collection this large is a big ask — especially when Lind doesn’t know who to ask.
“I’m cautiously optimistic and I believe God will give us a plan,” Lind said.
The City of Warren agreed to give the group a little more time, but everything has to be out by mid-January.
Anyone who knows of a space or someone who could help find a new home for the collection is urged to contact the Detroit Arsenal of Democracy.
