Kyren Wilson reached a second World Snooker Championship final by downing David Gilbert 17-11 at the semi-final stage at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
Wilson won five frames on the bounce on Friday to surge into a 14-10 overnight lead – just three frames away from victory – and although Gilbert won the first of the day on Saturday afternoon to close the gap, Wilson knuckled down and won three on the trot to seal victory. Having lost in the 2020 World Championship final to Ronnie O’Sullivan in front of a Covid-reduced crowd, the world No 12 will now walk out on Sunday in front of a packed Crucible crowd as the favourite to lift a first world title.
The other last-four encounter is a much grittier affair than the relatively free-flowing contest between Wilson and Gilbert proved to be. It has been tough sledding between Stuart Bingham and Jak Jones, who were unable to be separated after the first two sessions before Welshman Jones pulled into a 13-10 lead with five frames on the spin on Saturday morning.
The duo were pulled off early due to slow play but 2015 world champion Bingham did win the final frame of the morning with a century break to move just three behind going into the final session at 7pm this evening, with Wilson awaiting in the final.

Stuart Bingham 12-15 Jak Jones
A sublime break by Jak Jones. He played as if there was no pressure at all. The break ends at 70 when he misses the final red and Bingham returns to the table to play on for snookers but Jones is 70-23 ahead with only 35 points available. He’ll win it from here.

Stuart Bingham 12-15 Jak Jones
It’s been the sort of break where he hasn’t needed to crash into the pack at any point. The cluster was comprised as such that as he potted reds, others would be freed.
He nearly misses a blue on 45 points, it hits the left jaw of the middle pocket but somehow just drops! He does play one cannon on the final two reds to split them and it goes perfectly. He’s going to move one frame away from victory.

Stuart Bingham 12-15 Jak Jones
This is a tidy break from Jak Jones – he’s holding himself together well. He passes the 40-point mark, still a few more pots needed to get over the line but it has been drama-free so far.

Stuart Bingham 12-15 Jak Jones
We’re back underway and Bingham is in first but can only make 23 before badly missing a black. Jones is at the table with a golden opportunity. Most of the reds are clustered under the pink and the black is free on its spot.
First of all, he sets about eliminating his 23-point deficit.

FRAME! Stuart Bingham 12-15 Jak Jones
Bingham does what he needs to, pots the necessary remaining balls and edges to victory in another marathon frame.
Stuart Bingham wins frame 27 and heads to the mid-session interval at 15-12 behind. Jak Jones still needs two frames for victory.

Stuart Bingham 11-15 Jak Jones
Big chance for Bingham now as Jones escapes a safety, hits the red but leaves a pot on. The remaining reds are all in pottable positions now.
Can the 2015 world champion hold his nerve in the final frame before the interval? He’s 20 points ahead, so needs two reds and colours.

Stuart Bingham 11-15 Jak Jones
Bingham racks up a few more points and he’s edging towards the finish line in this frame. He leads 55-35 and we’re down to three reds left. Jones consistently left in trouble as well, snookered behind the baulk colours.

Stuart Bingham 11-15 Jak Jones
This frame is going down to the wire. Another valuable eight points for Bingham as he pots red and black before playing a cross-double safety that sees another red sunk. He now leads 40-35.
He then plays a safety shot with the brown to disturb a couple of those reds on the side cushion. Four reds left as both players wait for the next opening.
